Walking distance to many local hotels in the area. Nice clean street food environment. Like that they didn't use plastic cutleries here. Food was good . Some locals do come here but mostly tourist or locals whom bring tourist here. The fried carrot cake was lacked seasoning but had wok hei. The noodles soup , wonton noodle and oyster omelette was good. The drinks were pretty small portion for rm 3. It was served in a kiddy cup and mostly ice.
Last visited August 2022.The night hawker stalls operate from 4 p.m. till midnight. My few favourite stalls which I frequented:The lady selling apom, a larger version of the Kuih Kapit, very light and airy, each piece is RM0.60.The Mother & Son classic Penang wonton noodlesThe Char Koay Teow, wok-hei & reasonably pricedIt’s very lively now after the pandemic, with a flow of local and foreign tourists. The road is not closed to cars; tables and seats are by the roadside; it is advisable to dine-in at your own discretion.
Dinner @ Chulia Street Night Market & Xi Nan Cafe..The area on a weekday night seemed quieter than I recall, with only a handful of stalls in the Chulia Street Night Market, perhaps a fallout of the pandemic..Loved the Lor Bak, or 5 Spice Roll (MYR RM18), a mixture of fried items and fritters..Among the medley of ingredients, those that stood out included the eponymous 5 Spice Roll with its crisp crunch to the tofu bean curd skin, and robust meaty earthy savoury sweet salty nutty spice flavour from the juicy filling..The bouncy tofu bean curd with grainy sweet flavour was comforting, while the chewy Taiwanese pork sausages had addictive meaty savoury sweet smoky flavour..The Cuttlefish Kang Kong (MYR RM18) has fresh blanched water spinach with vegetal bitter sweet flavour, while the slippery cuttlefish lends a good crunch to texture..Topped with pickled mustard greens, crushed peanuts, and lime juice, while the thick gravy has an enticing sweet savoury shrimpy sour spice flavour, yum..The Wanton Noodles (MYR RM6.50) is served Hong Kong style with a dark soy sauce gravy..They're well regarded for having bouncy thin egg noodles with grainy sweet salty flavour, and medium-sized minced pork dumplings infused with pork lard oil which carries robust meaty sweet savoury salty flavour, yum..We were drawn to the frying skills of the hawker at Granny's Fried Oyster Omelette Shop. The Fried Oyster Omelette (MYR RM16) has lots of egg without much potato starch, fluffy and soft and moist, with bold eggy sweet savoury salty flavour. The oysters were small and carried a small juicy bite with briny salty sweet flavour, pairing well with the spicy garlic chili.
Very popular place , can get very busy ,i remember the food was really good but this trip ,somehow not up to their usual standard but it's still delicious,it's just that my chicken was not hot as in freshly fried ,it's still crispy but losses it's appeal ,also the egg are pre fried rather then fry as when you order them , don't get me wrong ,the food are still good but it's not fantastic good ,maybe they are preparing for the weekend crowd so they prepare all in advance ,just not how I remember this place to be
My fav place now! Nice food, big portion with reasonable price, good vibes, good and fast service, varieties of food from nasi lemak to western to char kuey teow to all sorts of nasi goreng and sotong goreng tepung. I like that they played some good old days songs in the background and their kitchen crew are enjoying it as much as i do too😄 Nasi lemak is awesome! Chicken chop oriental crunchy with 3rasa gravy... Very interesting... That thai strawberry drink... Omg my fav! It's hard to find it in my place. Can only get it here... Parking quite limited here. So i always come with my motorbikes. Easier.
Tasty fried chicken. Generous prawn serving in my kuey teow banjir udang. Oh, the apple assam boi was huge and so refreshing. Carbonara was not good. Nasi lemak sotong was flavourful.
Chicken Chop is tasty. RM15.50. He specialises in fried chicken burgers. Grill beef burgers. If you want the classic Ramly burgers, this shop has it too.
Easy to park..Fast service. Taste? Average. Not sure what happen to bread. Its very soggy.
Superb fried chicken burger😋 I’m very very njoy their food🤤 so u guys I highly recommended to come this place and enjoy their food. Price also reasonable and affordable. I give 5 star to this place because I’m so happy and very satisfied about their customer service also their food.
Worth the 30min wait in line. The food was so rich in flavor, so good. You can choose your kind of rice (they also coffee half portions) and then add as many or litrlw protein, sauce and veggies you'd like.
Believe the hype. Crazy queue on a Sunday lunch time. Awesome selection of food with excellent flavour. Would definitely return. They need to improve on their toilets though. Quite pricey if you order seafood. Expect to pay about 60RM per person
Went by this line clear nasi kandar early in the morning which was 10am , there was only one person before me packing food . I decided to dine in as a heavy breakfast in the morning . ☺️ Even though I went so early they have everything prepared and ready for lunch . I bought myself a plate of rice , squid , lady’s finger and boiled egg . Not to forget requested for kuah banjir . The curries were abit sweet and not so spicy . ✅ They have a wide place for seating for customers , was empty because I went early in the morning . The total cost of the food was RM16.20 and my drink was RM3.10 . So all in RM19.30 which was affordable as I took squid and quantity was quite alot 💯 Overall , you can give it a try as one of the nasi kandar in Penang . It didn’t really met my taste expectations but might be different for different individuals . ✨
Thank u Line Clear for the wonderful breakfast ! Awesome food served since 1930, curry fish head was lit , super fresh , mutton that melts in your mouth. We are blown away . Please visit the gang at LINECLEAR and the guy in purple, you made our day with your exuberance and tip top service
The porridge is so yums. Smooth and silky, pairs really well with the poached chicken. A douse of that soy sauce and sesame oil, oh my, comfort food at its best. Great for a little late night supper.I felt the curry noodles were okay. Frankly, we’ve tasted better and it ended up being a little tad spicy for my liking.
One of the famous dining place for locals.Always full house and be prepared to spend some time to get seats.Ba kut teh, steamed chicken, porridge, prawn mee and etc.#greenhouse #restaurant #chinese #food #dinner #georgetown #penang
Well known for it's prawn noodles. Taste wise is good, the broth has a thick prawn flavour as well. There's no ac and can be rather hot during the day time.
This place is recommended by my friend and it is no doubt the food here is very good! They serve typical nasi kandar dishes. The place is fairly spacious because of the table layout. Other than that the place is clean at the time of my visit which works up my appetite to enjoy my food.
Food 👍👍👍👍👍 Service 👍👍👍👍👍 Price 👍👍👍👍 Location 👍👍👍👍👍 The gravy combination with white rice are just AWESOME.! Take away at 4.30 p.m and have for iftar at 7.30 p.m, the taste much better (for me) 🤭 Will repeat for others dish like squid and lamb shank.
Update in September 2022: Among the legendary nasik kandar in Penang. Dishes are delicious and warm-hearted, price wise is between cheap and reasonable. This stall opened at evening. You can find them at nearby Restaurants Jamal during day time for the same dishes. History: Very good taste. Friendly staff. Good location.
Long queue @ 11.45pm, speed of service could be improved. Rm9.80 for one chicken breast and cabbage. Price has been increased 25% since my last visit before covid. anyway, It is still delicious.
Not recommended
I went there for their set talam. Worth my money~ the taste was good and the portion was hugeeeee.
I wanted to try Nasi Kandar, but I didn’t want to go to an overly popular place that tasted average. So I asked some locals and they recommend Raffee! I truly enjoyed the Nasi Kandar. The gravy worked well together and the add on chicken was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. This is definitely a place to check out if you want to try good Nasi Kandar.
In 1959, Mohd Raffe Restaurant opened its first location in Batu Gantong, Penang's racetrack, before relocating to Pulau Tikus in 1998. Despite its small size, this 24-hour shop lot outlet relies solely on fans for ventilation.Typical of a Mamak shop, the atmosphere is relaxed and lively, filled with customers and employees conversing incessantly. At night, tables are placed on the shop lot walkway and the street just in front of it to accommodate more customers and create an open-air dining atmosphere. According to a local, this is the nasi kandar outlet he has been a customer of since he was a child. If you are not from Penang, always take the advice of a Penangite when it comes to local cuisine. I have had nasi kandar at many places, but Raffe is my favorite. Raffe's curries and fried chicken are two of Penang's most popular dishes; whether you are a Penangite or a first-time visitor, you will enjoy the food at Raffee, and do not forget to practice physical distancing during the Covid-19 while visiting the famous Nasi Kandar Raffee 295-A Jalan Burma, Pulau Tikus 10350 George Town, Penang.
Im loving it, my wife loves it, my kids digs it.. what more can i say?The queue was long, but very worth it. Fish curry and squid egg is the best dish you can have here. Fried chicken is awesome. Expect very long queue and limited dining place. Will come again later for sure.
Delicious place with tripe and urat soup. Price of these are abit pricey but worth it for me. Only lack sambal kicap for my extra kick.
Super tasty mutton soup, cheap but not big portion. One of the best things to try in Georgetown!
Coming back here after 2 years+ and the taste remains the same. One of my most favourite Nasi Kandar in Penang. Their fried chicken is compulsory to try together with Kari Banjir!! Memang SURRRRR.The place is very spacious and big enough for large groups. Their staff are attentive as well. Come here during odd hours to avoid long queues. Overall experience was fantastic!
One of the best Nasi Kandar's in Penang. The daging (beef) was so tender and juicy. The egg omelette was amazing as well. Best egg omelette I've had in Penang. The taste of the curry was excellent. Just the right amount of spice and very flavorful. The squid was good as well. Must try in Penang. Definitely worth the queue. Only issue was parking. Its tough to find a spot. My friend parked far away.
Must try are the curry mee and koay teow thng...one of the best in Penang!
A good place for dinner and supper. They have very good white curry mee, and koay tiao soup. The seafood chu char is worth trying as well.We ordered one white curry mee, one koay tiao soup, cockles, balitom and steam octopus.Their white curry mee is one of the best in Penang. A bit sweet, and fragrant, I think they added a bit of peanut to elevate the aroma & texture. The koay tiao soup has pork intestines, clear and flavorful, not like ajinomoto soup.As for the seafood, they did not overlook the seafood, and not like some other stall where it is a bit too raw for my liking. All seafood are fresh and they taste good. Just the way I like it.
One of my go-to seafood chu char. Dishes ordered are 豆酱 (bean sauce?) lala, kung pao mantis prawn, tofu with scallop. Price is on the higher side (RM50 including rice) but worth the price. This place is also popular for its duck meat koay teow soup and curry mee.
If you don’t have the ingredients for a proper B52… don’t make it. If you don’t have the proper skills for a mojito… don’t (the worst you can do) blame your colleague!! hope all your colleagues read this. instead give better service and don’t just take my money. 1 star for the B52, 1 star for the mojito. most disturbing fact is the fact the older guy blames his colleagues for a poor drink….shame on you! Customers if you read this… avoid this place. There are better places for a proper drink.
Terrible experience. The live music group is a disaster, the bad quality loudspeakers don't allow you to speak to your neighbour and you might need 15 minutes to order your second drink or receive your bill. Never again in these conditions. The only good news is that the cocktails are well prepared, thanks to the bartender.
Good for supper!Plenty of parkings.
If you have time to wait for good street burgers, this is the one for you. Generous amount of vege, not too oily (i had the fried burger), not over drenched with sweet sauces. Expect a waiting time of at least 30 minutes.
Extremely good customer service! My burgers always have special orders and this is the only shop that knows what I am looking for, out of the many burger stalls I patronized! The bun is special thicker bun, and the size is slightly bigger, and tastier!
Cheap and have assorted choice of steambot dishes....but would be much better if it was buffet style👍🏻
Cheap price, rm 20 can eat alot already, service good also, definitely will go again
Worth the flight from TORONTO! We happened upon Them Xim Charcoal Mookata tonight on a stroll from our hotel. The restaurant is clean and modern and it caught our eye. We had no idea that the attractive appearance, would pale in comparison the the phenomenal food and exceptional service. The staff are friendly and attentive, offering menu advice and an explanation of the at-table cooking process. Chiang (Thai) beer is available and is the perfect accompaniment with dinner. As an added surprise... just when you thought your dining experience was done… ICE CREAM! (I recommend the black glutenous rice)
Superb experience for Mookata! Everything was beyond excellence! Clean and cozy environment, friendly staffs, fresh ingredients, no MSG yet delicious soup, self made perfect pairing dipping sauces. Make sure you make reservations as dinner can be full house. Hopefully the quality of food and services can be maintained. Will definitely revisit again!
Taste is poor, the ayam ros is burnt. Daging only 1 small piece and hard to bite. Fried chicken (ayam goreng) hard like a rock.Feel like having a overnight chicken /beef.Totally not recommended.
Price reasonable , food still acceptable for me ~
Good! The minced meat original is excellent! The prawn ball is fresh and super good! The service is good! The staff always take care of your! Good! Must share
Quality drop after change of venue. The shop is stuffy and hot. Bad ventilation. And the Maggie goreng doesn't taste good as it used to be. Disappointing.
Visited this mamak stall after recommended by lots of my friends! Compare to traditional mamak stall, jiao sai located in a terrace house hence it could not take in too much customers at one go. Tried out their fried maggi and chicken thigh with their special recipe. The fried maggi come with dry texture so if you are a big fans of gravy type fried maggi then you should come be prepared😂 i love the dry style so much as it bring out the “wok hei” of this dish! The grilled chicken thigh is also out of the world. Can’t really tell what kind of spices they put in for this dish but it does taste well! Last thing to highlight is the way they handle customers is really polite and attentive. Compare to most of the mamak which you need to make noise raise hand constantly to grab their attention, jiao sai’s crew really did a goof job to make you enjoy your dining experience! Would return again!
Having late night cravings? Well, you've come to the right place! This collection features incredible and delicious supper spots in Penang.
